Meet & Greet the Goldens Day

Golden Gateway will be open the second Saturday of every month from 10:00AM to 12:00PM for the public to tour the facility and meet our Goldens. Approved adopters, prospective adopters and the general public are welcome to attend. (If you haven't already done so, please be certain to read how to complete the application process to be approved to adopt.) This is a great opportunity to see the variety of ages, activity levels, and personalities of the dogs in our rescue program in order to determine what may be the right dog for YOU! Our schedule for the day is as follows*:

10:00 to 12:00 — Meet the Goldens currently available for adoption. Each dog will be outside on leash with a volunteer handler during this time and visitors may interact with them and talk with the staff and volunteers. The dogs’ records will be available for review at our information table. Along with his or her record, each dog will have a sign-up sheet where prospective adopters can add their name if they want to be considered for that dog. (You may put your name down for more than one dog.) It is best to arrive early in order to have as much time as possible for meeting the dogs!

12:00 to 1:00
– Our Adoption Team will review the sign-up sheets and start making preliminary decisions regarding the best “match” for each dog (i.e., which of the potential applicants would be best suited to meet the needs of the dog). If multiple applicants have signed up for one dog, the matching decision may not be made until a day or two later in order for us to fully explore all factors involved. In some cases, a matching decision can be made the same day and the adoption finalized — this will only take place if:

  • the person or family already has an approved application on file
  • all members of the family are in attendance
  • there are no other existing family dogs that need to meet the prospective adoptee
  • we believe the match to be an excellent one for the dog

Applicants who are not yet approved may sign up for dogs, but cannot be potentially matched with that dog until their application has been approved. In addition, visitors may obtain information about the adoption process while at Gateway and obtain an application form. (The application form is also available online.)

Please - do not bring existing family dogs to Meet and Greet Days and remember that children must be supervised at all times. Thanks and we look forward to meeting you!

IMPORTANT NOTE: We match dogs with adopters all throughout the month, not just at our Meet and Greet the Goldens Days.

If you are an approved applicant and don’t find a match the day of the event, we’ll still be actively looking to find the right dog for you and may possibly do so before the next Meet and Greet.

For more detailed information, please read our Meet and Greet the Goldens Day FAQ.

*Please note that this schedule may be modified in the event of inclement weather.
