Due to the circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic that is allowing families to be home and looking to adopt a dog, we are seeing a dramatic influx in adoption applications. Currently, the adoption application approval process may take up to 4 weeks. Our Adoption Team is continuing to work with approved adopters to make potential matches with the dogs currently in our program; however, no on-site adoption appointments will be scheduled until the stay-at-home and social distancing directives have been lifted.
To be considered for any of the dogs in our program, you must first complete our process and be approved to adopt. The process consists of five steps:
- Review all of the pages:
- Complete the Adoption Application
- Provide a veterinary reference (if applicable)
- An in-home interview (home visit; may be done virtually via photos/video)
- Get matched with an available DVGRR dog. While you’re waiting, please be sure to watch our adoption video! (Scroll down if needed.)
If you would like to visit us at Golden Gateway, we offer our monthly Open House Events on the second Saturday of each month. We invite you to attend, as these events are excellent opportunities to meet the Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Goldendoodles and Labradoodles in our program, talk with our staff and volunteers, and learn more about our organization.
Other than on Monthly Open House days, our dogs can be seen only by approved adopters with an appointment. Appointments are scheduled Mondays through Fridays (8am-3pm) and Saturdays (8-11am). No Sunday appointments.
Please Note: We are located in Reinholds, PA (approx. 65 miles northwest of Philadelphia) and while we do not require adopters to be Pennsylvania residents, we do require that all family members (and any existing family dogs) come to Golden Gateway for the adoption meeting. We do not ship dogs.
